Be a volunteer
Although we can always use help with foundation-related tasks, this section was not created to solicit your service for our gain, but rather to encourage you to give of yourself freely for the benefit of others.
A person who is genuinely compassionate and loving will give of themselves without the expectation of gain and in doing so, promote peace, social justice and a benevolent environment.
There are countless non-profit organizations around the world formed to benefit other living beings, most are chronically understaffed. Some of them are well known, others obscure. Seek them out and give them your most precious gift, give of your heart, your time, and your energy.
The cultivation of compassion (bodhicitta) lies at the core of Buddhist teachings. Volunteerism, if done unconditionally, provides a wonderful opportunity to arouse compassion. Great effort is not required, for regardless of one’s age, education, position in life or belief, those in need can be found within arm’s reach.
In The Dharma Of Cultivation transmitted by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, we are told …..”The essence of learning Buddhism lies with carrying out what we learn in our cultivation. We use good and bad causes and conditions as objects of cognition. Therefore, we must first understand what cultivation is. Cultivation is cultivating the increase of good karma and cultivating the avoidance of bad karma. It is increasing good karmic conditions, planting good causes, and reaping good effects. It is avoiding the increase of bad karmic conditions, not planting bad causes, and avoiding the reaping of bad effects. But the term cultivation has a rather broad meaning. We must first understand what cultivation is.”
